You will notice two primary hoses connected to the dishwasher: a water supply line (inlet) and a wastewater drain hose (outlet). Place a shallow basin or bucket underneath the connections to catch any residual trapped water. Carefully disconnect both hoses under the sink and lower their open ends into the bucket to drain completely.
- Prep the Lines and Remove Brackets: Before pulling the machine, gently untangle the disconnected water lines and power cord under the sink, and feed them slightly through the cabinet hole toward the dishwasher side. This prevents them from snagging or tearing the cabinetry during extraction. Next, look under the counter lip or along the side cabinets to locate the mounting brackets or screws securing the unit's framework to the cabinetry. Unscrew and remove these fasteners entirely.
- Carefully Extract the Unit: Slowly pull the old dishwasher straight out of its cavity. Do not use excessive force or yank it aggressively, ensuring the lines feed smoothly through the cabinet holes.
Pro-Tip: Once the old unit is fully removed, take the opportunity to thoroughly clean the empty cabinet alcove. Because these spaces remain sealed for years, it is highly common to find accumulated dust, debris, and occasionally dead bugs or small pests hiding in the dark corners.
3. Installing Your New Dishwasher
With a clean workspace, you are ready to prep your new appliance.
First, apply the soundproofing insulation. Most premium dishwashers come with a sound-dampening blanket or jacket wrapped around the exterior chassis. Make sure this is properly fitted and secured according to the manual before pushing the unit into the opening, as it cannot be added later.

If a connection utilizes a rubber gasket, do not use Teflon thread-seal tape (plumber's tape), as the tape can interfere with the gasket's seating and actually cause a micro-leak. 4. Advanced Plumbing: Understanding and Installing an Air Gap

An Air Gap is a cylindrical plumbing fixture mounted on your sink countertop that introduces physical air into the drainage path. Once the lines are tightly connected under the sink, the Air Gap is secured, and the dishwasher is fully leveled and fastened to the surrounding cabinetry, your project is nearly complete.

Use this first run to sit down with a flashlight and meticulously inspect every single joint, hose connection, and valve under the sink for any signs of weeping or moisture. Catching a tiny drip now prevents major cabinetry water damage later, allowing you to enjoy an incredibly quiet, high-efficiency clean for years to come.
